Before Chardonnay became in vogue Riesling was considered the greatest white wine in the world.  Riesslingen as the name of a grape first appeared in records in 1435 in the Rhine Valley, a wild vine domesticated during the Middle Ages.  Almost seven hundred years later some of the most incredible white wines you will ever taste are being made in he Rhine and Mosel Valleys of Germany.  Riesling grapes are successfully grown in Alsace France, northern Italy, Austria, Washington state, Canada and a few other locations with cool to cold weather during the growing season.
